Essex Front Ports - “Our Plexiglas craftsmanship is first class”

Essex can make a number of different front ports for your housing. We offer an optical quality dome port made from a machine polished aluminium mold and this dome is as optically correct as any dome that you can get. This dome works great with a wide variety of today's extreme fish-eye and wide angle lenses without any distortion.

Essex also manufactures the best “Zoom” ports available. Our zoom action is silky smooth and feels very natural due in part to our exclusive extra wide zoom gear fitted to the lens. The extra wide lens gear meshes in harmony with the drive gear for a perfect alignment no matter what. We were the early pioneers in alternative ways to attach a zoom gear to the lens utilizing Velcro and other manufacturers have started to follow our lead. Our zoom drive gear is centered below the larger and heavier zoom lenses to facilitate the transfer of power of the gears. Smaller and lighter zoom lenses will have the drive gear placed in the most advantageous position for photographer control and comfort.

Our Plexiglas front elements are easily replaced in the field, great for those times when you are traveling and you experience a scratch on your front port.

Our optical dome ports are manufactured out of polycarbonate that is injected in to a highly polished aluminium mold that costs in excess of thirty thousand dollars. Special multi-coatings are added to the dome to increase it’s hardness and resistance to scratching.

The Plexiglas finish work on an Essex housing is first class. Attention to detail is our hallmark and a front port doesn’t leave our facility unless it meets our high standard of quality.
